ALTAR GUILD HISTORY
Charter members were Norma Miller, Iva Sheller, Lucille Kendall, Lena Albro, Sally Hart, Bernice Hull, Donna Edwards, Elsie Denson, Leta Syria, Verna Rossier, Teddie Schinman, Lorna Kochendorfer, and Maxine Hovorka. Maynard Hardy was a church member from 1934 until his death in 1962. He provided fresh flowers from his garden on numerous occasions. Memorials to Mr. Hardy totaling $106 were given to the Altar Guild in August 1963, and in 1967, an additional $650 was donated in his memory. Mrs. Hardy donated $150.13 in 1965 for landscaping in the courtyard. In 1969 a pink dogwood tee was planted in front of the church in memory of Lucille Kendall. Papier-mâché figures for a manger scene were made by the guild members in 1973. In 1974 bells were purchased to be used during Advent. There were also other expenses which were depleting our treasury so a Holiday Tasting Tea fund-raiser was held at the home of Betty Salvini. In 1978 a large cornucopia was made to use at Thanksgiving. In 1979 a folding screen was made to be used as a back-drop on the altar Paul Morrow constructed a wooden frame to hold Easter lilies in 1981. The frame was painted by George Blume. It is also sometimes used during Advent for poinsettias. Paul also built shelves in the Altar Guild storage room. In 1982 a memorial to Elmer Fronek was given to place flowers annually in his memory. He joined the church in 1947 and died in 1982. Altar Guild continues its responsibility for having floral arrangements on the altar each Sunday. A calendar in the hallway by the office offers the opportunity to sign up to provide flowers for a particular Sunday. Flowers may be given in memory of loved ones, to honor someone or some event, or just to give for the beauty of the sanctuary. Current members of the guild are Alice Guyer, Helen Pace, Janice VanEaton, Louanne Stiltner, Rose Ann Moore, Myrtis Lang, Janice Tate, Janet Schilperoort, Susie Myers, and Alice Benedetti.
